Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan has returned to the Nigma Galaxy Dota 2 lineup amid a major roster overhaul. The news comes a day after dramatic moves on Wednesday that left Nigma Galaxy with just one active player.

SumaiL initially joined Nigma Galaxy in May 2022 after a short and unsuccessful stint with Team Secret. With SumaiL on the roster, Nigma Galaxy returned to the top division of DPC WEU 2021/2022 but failed to win anything at the highest level.

A long dry streak led to more roster changes, with coach Daniel “ImmortalFaith” Moza, Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf, and SumaiL removed from the active lineup. After he was benched in May this year, SumaiL joined Team Aster on loan and stayed with the Chinese outfit for six months.

With Team Aster, SumaiL placed top eight at ESL One Berlin Major 2023 and won a bronze medal in DPC CN 2023 Tour 3: Division I. Unfortunately, his stint in China ended in August when Aster crashed out of The International 2023 China Qualifier in fifth-sixth place.

Since leaving Aster, SumaiL has attended just one professional Dota 2 tournament, BetBoom Dacha, as a replacement for Armel “Armel” Tabios at Team Secret. While SumaiL again came short of winning a trophy, he helped his former team claim a bronze medal.

SumaiL rejoins Nigma Galaxy at a difficult time.

On Wednesday, the team released Yuma “Yuma” Langlet, Kasra “Mikey” Mesbah, and Ivan “MinD_ContRoL” Ivanov. Just hours later, Maroun “GH” Merhej announced that he was taking a break from competitive play for the foreseeable future.

This left Nigma Galaxy with just two players: captain Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi, who was rumoured to retire before the 2024 season, and Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi, who has been inactive since he stepped down from the roster in December 2022 due to health issues.

While the departure of Miracle- came as a shock, Nigma Galaxy were expected to make drastic changes ahead of the 2024 season. Since Miracle-, GH, MinD_ContRoL, and KuroKy formed the squad after leaving Team Liquid, Nigma Galaxy haven’t accomplished much.

While they were always on the cusp of establishing themselves as one of the top European sides, Nigma Galaxy have yet to win an S-Tier event. Their lacklustre performances became even more noticeable in 2023 when Nigma dropped to the second division for DPC WEU 2023 Tour 3 for the second year and ended the season with no tournament titles.

Nigma Galaxy informed fans on Monday that Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan was no longer a part of their Dota 2 squad.

SumaiL has been a big part of Nigma Galaxy since he joined in May 2022 and is a known player in the Dota 2 scene. Prior to his stint with Nigma Galaxy, the player competed in top-tier squads like Evil Geniuses, OG, and Team Secret and is on his way to Team Aster.

Nigma Galaxy announced the roster change via Twitter shortly after the close of the ESL One Berlin Major 2023, where SumaiL competed under Team Asters banner.

Despite the language barrier, SumaiL helped the Chinese team reach a top-eight finish in the tournament and acquire the required DPC points. His impressive performance during the Major caught the attention of fans and Team Aster, who decided to retain him for longer as part of their lineup.

Team Aster were previously on the hunt for a mid-laner and expressed interest in SumaiL, so the move is suitable for them. The Berlin Major showed Team Aster that the player would be a suitable fit for the team, leading to SumaiLs signing.

Team Aster announced their new player via the organizations official Weibo account, where they revealed that SumaiL would remain on their lineup until The International 2023 (TI12) later this year.

Team Aster also stated that SumaiL and Nigma Galaxy were yet to decide if the player would continue with them following the conclusion of The International 2023 or sign with another team.

While Chinese Dota 2 teams have signed players from Southeast Asia on a number of occasions, the region has barely any record of signing European players. Dominik Black^ Reitmeier is one of the few known European players in Dota 2 history to have joined all-Chinese squads.

With SumaiL as part of their lineup Team Aster currently consists of SumaiL, Du Monet Peng, Lin Xxs Jing, Ye BoBoKa Zhibiao, and Yu Ƥ Yajun.

The internal turmoil of Quincy Crew has resulted in the departure of Syed Sumail SumaiL Hassan from the team, which leaves the NA squad severely weakened ahead of Dota Summit 11, set to begin on November 7, 2019.

Thursday, October 10 marked the final day of Dota Summit 11 qualifiers for all six regions, meaning the final lineup for the opening event of 2019/20 Dota Pro Circuit season is complete.

Virtus.pro, HellRaisers, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Ad Finem, Invictus Gaming, Geek Farm, paiN Gaming and the newly formed Quincy Crew made the list with their impressive performances in their regional qualifiers.

Out of all teams, however, it was Quincy Crew who made all the headlines, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

A lot of expectations have been put on this team, who had a very solid run at MDL Chengdu Major NA qualifiers. There they finished second in Group B, only to suffer a painful 1-2 defeat at the hands of Evil Geniuses in semi-finals and a 0-2 loss to J.Storm in the third-place match, meaning Quincy Crew finished fourth.

By failing to finish top three, Quincy Crew came just short of reaching Chengdu Major and had to settle with a consolation prize that was a ticket for Dota Summit 11 qualifiers, where they crushed everyone, and earned a spot at the Dota Summit 11 main event.

With an impressive feat behind them Quincy Crew looked like a team with a very bright and promising future ahead of them. However, everything soon came crashing down.

On the same day Dota Summit 11 qualifiers ended, Quincy Crew’s coach revealed they will continue their journey without their star player and former EG member SumaiL due to a “fit issue”.

Despite looking very solid on the outside, it seems like Quincy Crew seemingly did not operate as smoothly as many would have guessed or hoped they did.

The Quincy Crew’s coach went on to post another Twitter post, stating that despite what many Dota 2 esports fans thought, the departure of SumaiL from the team was not due to one person being the problem, but rather a result of “complicated team issues and circumstances”, which leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

The departure of SumaiL from Quincy Crew also means he will miss out on playing alongside his younger brother and former Newbee member Yawar YawaR Hassan, who will most likely step in the shoes of his older brother and take over the role as a carry at Quincy Crew.

Where will the road take SumaiL is yet to be seen, however, as it seems, his departure from Evil Genuises in mid-September left him unable to find a new home, where he could re-live his glory days when he became TI5 champion with EG.

Evil Geniuses revealed on Monday, September 16 they had decided to replace both Syed SumaiL Hassan and Gustav s4 Magnusson with fresh faces in preparation for the 2019/20 Dota Pro Circuit season.

The news gives confirmation to speculation that arose last week, suggesting the 2015 Dota 2 International champions could make some changes for the new campaign.

The first rumours about the possible departure of s4 came right after TI9, when it was said EG were unhappy with his lacklustre play towards the end of the season.

There were also reports of inner turmoil between SumaiL and Artour Arteezy Babaev, which meant EG would have to sooner or later decide to keep one and let the other go.

While no official reports on the matter were released last week, EG took to Twitter this Monday to announce that both s4 and SumaiL were off the team.

They also confirmed the acquisition of former Fnatic midlaner Abed Azel L. “Abed” Yusop and ex-Virtus.pro offlaner Roman RAMZES666 Kushnarev.

While it appears Evil Geniuses have managed to resolve their internal issues, they have lost an important player in the process.

SumaiL joined EG in early 2015, making him not only one of the most iconic EG members but also the longest-serving player, having been with the team for almost five years.

His first tournament with EG was the Dota 2 League Season 5 finals, where the team placed third.

Not long after SumaiL arrived, he managed to establish himself as a key player in the EG team and while he was widely regarded as one of the most promising players of Dota 2 esports scene to begin with, he further build his renown in the months that followed.

At Dota 2 Asia Championship 2015, SumaiL played a crucial role in EGs title run, meanwhile earning the title as one of the best Storm Spirit players in the world.

Adding to the list of incredible achievements, in August of 2015, SumaiL helped his team win the prestigious TI5, making EG the first-ever North American team to bring home the Aegis.

SumaiL also became the youngest esports player to eclipse US $1 million in winnings, which he achieved at only 16 years, two months and 21 days of age.

As of September 2019, he is the 10th-best paid Dota 2 player in history, with just over $3,590,225 in prize winnings to his name.

Although his career with EG has come to a close, the 20-year-old superstar took to Twitter to thank his fans for their support and assure everyone his professional career is nowhere near over.
